Being Human Course

It’s not easy being human! It's not our fault that we can worry about the future, dwell on the past and become self-critical. In these sessions we discuss why being threat-focused, highly imaginative herd animals living in a modern world causes us problems. We offer strategies to deal with negative thinking and prevent unnecessary unhappiness. We have some fun whilst drawing on evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, cognitive, compassion-focused and behavioural approaches to inform this course. This is an 8 week course and each session is 2 hours in length.Sessions include looking at emotions and anxiety; why we feel them and how they get on with each other; the brain's negative bias; unhelpful thinking habits; self-criticism; the rules we live by - are they helpful?; positive psychology as well as developing strategies to calm and soothe our minds and become kinder towards ourselves.

Testimonial“It’s normalised my difficulties to hear others have the same issues, and that Meg and Lucy are familiar with all these ways we torture ourselves, so I feel more detached and empowered to help myself.

Compassionate mind training

The Compassionate Mind Training is a face to face course devised from Paul Gilbert’s Compassion Focused Therapy. It is an eight-week, 16-hour course that offers a deep exploration into the three flows of compassion with lots of experiential practices interwoven with the theoretical framework.Published research in 2020 has demonstrated that participation in this course offers significant increases in compassion, self-reassurance, positive emotions and well-being. Also with significant reductions in self-criticism, anxiety, and psychological distress.

Testimonial“A huge thank you to Lucy and Meg. I truly believe you have changed my life.

Therapeutic consultations

We offer individual sessions for people who wish to focus on a specific issue or problem which may be leading to a feeling of being “stuck” or confused. The session will involve exploration of the issue to gain understanding of the detail and insight into the complexity of the problem and empathic and non-judgemental reflections in order to gain perspective and compassion. We have the opportunity of seeing the problem differently, joint problem solving and finding a way forward between the three of us. We offer one, two or three sessions over a period of a few months.

Individually tailored wellbeing session

We offer these sessions to identify and focus on beneficial practices and activities which promote wellbeing including self-kindness.We will explore enriching and scheduling existing practice into weekly or monthly routines incorporating additional new elements.Weekly or fortnightly sessions will last an hour with one therapist over a period of a month or two.

Testimonial“This group is excellent. Thank you Lucy and Meg for being kind and supportive to us all. It was heartwarming to see how much the group supported each other.
